Bottling, Capping, Labeling
Bottling
As with other equipment, be sure
your bottles are clean and sterile. The most common bottles used
by Homebrewers are the 12 oz. longneck brown returnable beer bottles.
Grolsch-style bottles with the ceramic top also work well. We do
not recommend using nonreturnables since they are of thinner glass.
Plan on using about 50 of the 12 oz bottles for a 5 gallon batch
of beer.

Bottle Cappers
Cappers come in two styles, the
hand held and the floor capper models. Floor models are often sturdier,
but some brewers find them slower to use because you have to move
the bottles to the capper rather than the capper to the bottles,
which is slightly faster. Our choice is the less expensive hand
held style, though customers often talk us into selling them the
floor models. Use vegetable oil to slightly grease the Cappers for
smoother operation. Do not use petroleum oils.
