Fermentation & Priming

The process by which sugars are converted into carbon dioxide and alcohol. This process was once considered a gift from the Gods. After fermentation is complete, the beer is siphoned back into the primary fermentor, or bottling bucket, priming sugars added, stirred, and the beer is then bottled and capped. The priming sugar provides for carbonation.

BOTTLING BUCKET 6½ gal. A food grade plastic bucket for bottling. Just transfer the beer from the Single-Stage, stir in the priming sugar, and bottle from the valve. A small amount of tubing should be attached to the spigot so the beer flows from the valve to the bottle without splashing and picking up oxygen (which is always to be avoided in beermaking after the early fermentation is through. The bottling bucket comes without its own lid. Bucket, with drilled hole & spigot.
$11.50
Lid for Bucket (not absolutely necessary) $2.75

5 GALLON GLASS CARBOY The famous big glass jug. Very useful as a secondary fermentor when keeping beer past 7-10 days before bottling. It can be seen through and is easier to keep clean and sterile than plastic. Absolutely necessary for wine since wine must be kept in a secondary for weeks and months and the oxygen permeability of plastic would ruin the wine. Can be shipped. Takes 6½ or 7 rubber stopper. $24.00
6½ GALLON GLASS CARBOY Ideal for use as a glass Single- Stage Fermentor when the beer is kept in one container for the entire time of fermentation. The extra gallon of space allows room for the foam to rise. A 4’ length of Blow-Out tubing should be used for safety. Do not simply attach a fermentation lock, as foam buildup can clog the small opening and cause a pressure buildup. Useful for any long fermentation, as in high gravity beers, lagering, or procrastination. $28.00
15 Gallon Carboy Italian. For the really large batch. comes in a plastic basket. Requires handling care. Heavy filled. $53.95
15 Gallon Carboy Italian. Same as above, but with built in spigot near the bottom. $84.95
