Hops
Hops have not always been used
in beer. They have been used for over a thousand years, but have
become popular only the last 200 years or so. Before that, spruce,
sage, ginger and wormwood were used, along with countless other
ingredients. Historians believe hops have come to dominate in our
contemporary beers because they add antiseptic and preservative
qualities to the beer, along with a contrasting bitterness to the
malt's natural sweetness. These qualities seem to make the hop admirably
suited to its task, making our beer taste as good as it does.
Note: As many of you may know, the hop situation in the end of 2007 and 2008 will be very tight. Some varieties may be unavailable for 2008 because of a very uneven supply. Prices of some varieties are expected to rise 200% or more. We will do our very best to insure a good supply, though some substitutions of varieties may be necessary, and we will try to keep our prices reasonable.
Currently our policy is to sell 6 oz. of hops for each $50.00 order. For example, if someone buys $47.00 of supplies, they can purchase 6 oz. of hops. If they order, for example, $72.00 of supplies, they can buy 12 oz. of hops, and so on. Thanks for your consideration.
Pellet Hops
Our hop pellets are always of the most recent vintage and are kept
frozen and barrier bagged.
