Beer Ingredient Kits

Ales, Porters & Stouts

These 3 styles of beers are the easiest to make at home since they can be fermented at room temperature, ideally between 60-70°F. At warmer temperatures ale-like characteristics such as fruitiness will be emphasized, while cooler than 60° temperatures may result in the fermentation stopping. True lagers are fermented at cooler temperatures. There are many variations of these 3 styles of beers. We have selected several of our favorites for you to choose from.

Lagers and Other Styles

Lager beers are different from ales mainly because they are fermented at cooler temperatures which reduces the production of esters and other by products, resulting in cleaner tasting beer. Home brewers often produce California-style lagers by fermenting lager ingredients at room temperature which produces a beer part way between an ale and a lager. This style of beer developed in California because they had no ice to chill beer with in the summer. You may also produce a true lager beer by fermenting at room temperature and chilling the beer for 4 weeks after bottling. This eliminates the problem of finding room to store a 5-7 gallon container of beer during the fermentation stage.

Ingredients Kits

Each of our brewing ingredient kits is made from the finest ingredients - the highest quality malt extracts, the freshest hops packaged in oxygen barrier bags sealed with nitrogen, fresh yeasts compatibly selected for the style of beer, adjunct grains chosen to enhance the beer flavors and complete instructions for each recipe.

Good beer is made from fine ingredients and a good, easy to follow recipe that enables the homebrewer to produce a clean, fresh beer. We have chosen and refined our recipes so that the beginning or experienced brewer can make excellent beer. Each recipe has been selected because it is representative of a style of beer, and has passed muster with other brewers.

We expect homebrewers to be experimental. After you have made several beers you may wish to select a recipe of your own from your beermaking book, or expand upon one of our recipes by adding more malt, or more or less hops, as your taste dictates.

We can be a source of recipes for you. We have access to many different beer books, and keep in touch with brewers via our Shop, local contests, and beer forums on the Internet. We can supply you with about any ingredients you need for your next beer. If you need our help or advice, give us a call!
